Our handmade soap is all natural! Only the basic ingredients, oil, lye, and water, necessary in soap making are used. And nothing is taken away! During the soap making process the caustic nature of lye is neutralized and skin softening glycerine is formed. Many commercial manufacturers add chemical agents to aid in separating the glycerine from their soap and sell the two as separate products. This is not the case with our soap. It contains all of the natural glycerine.

There are many people with sensitive skin who need natural soap without additonal chemicals, perfumes, and colorants. 'Oregon Trail Soap' contains nothing but the basic ingredients. Not only is it mild and skin loving, but it's envioronmentally friendly as only the basic ingredients are used.

I wish I had pictures to show my sore, cracked hands after using commercial soaps! For the first time in years I am without pain now that our 'Oregon Trail Soap' is at the sink! I wish I'd taken up soap making a long time ago. When my son, Jake, first tried this soap he laughed and exclaimed, "My hands are squeaking!" He'd finally experienced squeaky clean skin. Sometimes 'New and Improved' can never replace "Tried and True".

Note: When making soap one must use caution! In it's raw state, lye is extremely caustic. When combined with water it can reach temperatures near boiling. Even the fumes are dangerous. They can leave the skin with a sunburned feeling, and should never be inhaled. Only stainless steel containers and utensils are advised as the heat may crack glass, melt plastic, and will react with other metals such as aluminum.

Soap is made by combining oil and lye water at 120 degrees. It is stirred every 15 minutes for several hours to assure even distribution of ingredients. It is during this time that glycerine is formed. When the soap comes to trace, a pudding-like consistency, it is poured into moulds, removed from them when cool, and allowed to cure for two weeks while the lye reaction disapates.

CARE: Leave handmade soap in a well drained, dry area when not in use. Handmade soap ... the straight, unadultarated kind is softer than commercial soap, but if this 'rule of thumb' is adhered to, each cake will be long lasting.

Each cake of soap weighs 2.5 ounces and is offered here for
$ 2.00 each including shipping.
